The Executioner’s Dream

It’s 2:00 PM. Day of the execution of two women sentenced to death by hanging. The guard tells them their final appeal has been rejected. Kobe Lee will be hung at 5:00 PM and Erin Paige Turner at 6:00 PM. They hold each other in fear and sorrow. The guard leaves and goes back to his desk. He sits down and thinks about what is about to happen.

Both women are naked with a noose around their necks. Their hands cuffed behind their backs. There is a loud bang as the trapdoor drops and they suffer a short fall. They both gasp and struggle for several minutes. Towards the end they start foaming at the mouth. The executioner wakes up somewhat excited. But unfortunately, he can’t live out his fantasies for real.

At 5 p.m. The guard goes to the cell. He calls for the door to open and has Kobe Lee come out. The guard handcuffs her. He walks Kobe Lee down the long hallway to the gallows. Closeups of the handcuffs as she walks with the guard holding her arm.

Once at the gallows, Kobe is made to stand on the trap door. She’s dressed in an orange prisoner’s uniform and her hands are cuffed behind her back. The guard puts a thin leather belt around her legs. And then the noose around her neck. Normally, it should be a quick hanging by a long fall, but the executioner deliberately shortens the rope. You can see the fear in Kobe’s face as the executioner pulls the rope to make it shorter. He pulls the trapdoor and Kobe Lee falls but the rope is too short to break her neck. She gasps and struggles for a few minutes before the final end.

Now it is Paiges turn. He calls her out of her cell and handcuffs her. Then he takes her for the long final walk to the gallows. Once at the gallows, he has her stand on the trap door and removes her prison shoes. He secures the thin leather belt around her ankles. Next he puts the noose around her neck and again shortens the rope.

Paige whimpers as she waits the short time before the trap door is dropped. Once again, the short drop does not allow for her neck to snap. She gags and twitches until her final breath.
