Ditria and Misty huddle together in a death row holding cell, anxiously awaiting the results of their final appeals. They nervously whisper to each other about their possible executions. They hug each other tightly, and try to reassure each other that everything will be alright, and if not, that at least they’ll die together.

The executioner arrives and unlocks the cell. They start to whimper in denial and fall to their knees begging for mercy. The executioner ignores their pleas and forces them to stand up and walk in front of him to the death chamber.

Ditria and Misty step into the death chamber and see two gurneys set side by side for them. Holding hands they look at each other with terrified expressions. They try to beg the executioner not to kill them. But they’re too shocked to even speak coherently. The executioner orders them to remove their flip-flops and lay down on the gurneys.

They continue to weep and whine, but reluctantly comply as the executioner straps them down. He attaches electrodes to their chests. The executioner reads the death warrant and they give their final words.

He approaches Ditria first, and injects the poison into her arm. She winces in pain as she feels the stinging toxins enter her veins. The executioner gets a second syringe and injects it into Misty’s arm. She squeals and tries to resist, then gasps as the poison is forced into her. The two women look at each other, breathing heavily.

I’m scared! Misty sobs.

This isn’t right! Why do we have to die? Ditria protests.

Their hearts begin to race in panic, and they begin to breathe faster. The drugs quickly start to take effect and the women begin to cry, knowing their lives are about to be over.

After a minute or two, Misty starts to feel drowsy, and her breathing becomes more labored. She frantically gasps for air and stares wide-eyed at Ditria. Slowly, Misty stops resisting and eventually lies still. She continues taking shallow breaths, her lungs wheezing and her eyes staring blankly. Her heartbeat slows down on the EKG.

Ditria stares listlessly at her dying friend and wonders when it’ll be her turn to pass out. Those thoughts are cut off by a massive heart attack. Her widen in pain and terror, and her arms pull against their binds as she instinctively tries to clutch at her chest. She tries to breathe, but her lungs feel like they’re being crushed. Her EKG beeps in a rapid, irregular pattern. She feels her life slipping away, and her body trembles uncontrollably. One final effort to pull at her restraints, then she goes limp.

Both EKGs flatline, and the executioner approaches the dead women and watches their bodies spasm. Once all their movements eventually slow down and cease, he turns off the droning EKG monitors and manually checks each of them for a pulse to confirm their deaths.

He feels Ditria’s wrist, and presses a stethoscope to her chest and listens a few seconds. Nothing. He does the same with Misty. Their feet twitch slightly for the last time as the executioner announces the time of death. The bodies of the condemned will now be presented for viewing.

The executioner loosens the women’s bindings and slowly strips off their prison clothes, followed by their undergarments. He leaves their bodies exposed on the gurneys for the morgue crew to pick up after the viewing period.
